EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

Minutes for
June 13, 2005

Cleveland High School Alumni Meeting Room

 

The meeting was called to order by president, Dave Voll, at 11:30 AM.

 

Present: Ted Amato, Odis Avritt, Gary Bishop, Julie Branford, Paul Cook, Pat Dannen, Joe Gatto, Nadine Livingston, Bill Love, Gladys Michels, Jean Miller, Bryce Rickson, Dave Voll

 

  1. Minutes from the May 9, 2005 meeting were approved as written.

 

  1. Treasurer’s Report:  We have 616 annual members, and 316 lifetime members for a total membership of 932.  Current assets for the Association are $19,084.25.  The Scholarship Fund balance is $2,801.00.  The Gene Flippen Field Project has received $1,657.22.  Actual assets are $14,626.03.  The Oregon Community Foundation balance as of March 2005 is $143,565.00.  Money was sent to the Oregon Community Foundation for 2005 scholarships amounting to $2,209.00.

 

3.       Principal’s Report:  Paul Cook reported that the last day for students is June 14.  Teachers will complete the year on June 16.  The 2005 graduation, all night party and recognition night all went very well.  Paul indicated that he will be gone from July 19 through August 15.  Registration for students will be on August 24-26. 

 

District layoffs are affecting all buildings because of seniority bumping.  Cleveland High School has lost one teacher.  For the coming year, there will be a part-time Japanese teacher.  There is currently a full-time science teacher position to be filled. 

 

The CHS Foundation has requested that there be a CCHSAA Board member to be a liaison with their organization.  Paul, once again, thanked the alumni for all that they do for the school.

 

  1. Committee Reports:

 

Budget/Finance—None

 

Board Development—None

 

Communications—Bryce Rickson reminded the Board that material can be easily put on the website if it is sent to him via e-mail or an attachment to an e-mail.  A motion was made that the minutes of the Executive Committee and Board of Director meetings be placed on the website.  The motion was seconded and passed.

 

Scholarship—None

 

Membership—Dave Voll reported that there are 140 existing members who have not renewed their membership.  Post cards will be sent as reminders.    

 

Golf—Ted Amato and Joe Gatto reported that the committee is continuing to work on a variety of concerns to help make the tournament a success.

 

Special Events—None

 


5.       Topics of Discussion and Updates:

 

Field Renovation Project:  Odis Avritt reported that as of May 31, they have collected $6,112.00 for the field project.  The Task Force is seeking a major sponsorship of $250,000 or more to secure naming rights for the stadium.  The Task Force will be meeting every other Tuesday to continue looking for ways to promote donors contributions.

 

All-Class 90th Reunion:  Ted Amato and Nadine Livingston reported that the invitations will be sent out at the end of June.  The Open House at the high school will start at 1 p.m. in auditorium.  Paul Cook and other speakers will address the alumni and the Jazz Band and Clevelandaires will perform.  That will be followed by a 30-minute student-led tour.  Refreshments will be served in the cafeteria where a memorabilia table will be set up.  The Open House will end at 4 p.m.  The 90th Reunion’s evening function will start at 6 p.m. at the Oregon convention Center.

 

Alumni Calendar:  Jean Miller reported that they are on track for distribution at the 90th All-Class Reunion.

 

Fall Edition of the Alumni News:  Dave Voll reported that this will be an expanded edition that will highlight the events of the Spring Luncheon, Golf Tournament and the 90th Reunion.  We are currently looking for a student photographer for the various alumni functions.  The articles for the fall newsletter must be in by October 10.

 

6.       Old Business:

 

CHS Rummage Sale:  The sale is on June 25, 2005.  Items for the sale can be dropped off by June 24.  Contact Leigh Nunez for information.  Her phone number 503-232-8898.

Executive Committee Meeting will be Monday, September 12, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. at Cleveland High School Alumni Room.
