5. Topics of Discussion and Updates:
Cleveland Community Field Project: Roy Love and Paul Cook reported that it appears now that we will have over a million dollars for the project if we can reach the maximum matching funds from the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Foundation. There are other corporations and foundations that are going to be influential in the success of the field project. Bids will be let in the near future so the Cleveland Community Field Project can break ground in the spring of 2007.
The Cleveland/Franklin Golf Challenge: Odis Avritt and Dennis Maloney reported that information is being mailed to Cleveland alumni.
Spring Luncheon: Jean Miller reported that 141 individuals attended this year’s luncheon. Of this number, 99 were Commerce alumni and 42 were Cleveland alumni. She indicated that we sold $750 worth of raffle tickets and 4 “Ledgers” for a total of $780 to the Scholarship Fund.
2007 Alumni Picnic: Nadine Livingston reported that the all-day picnic is on track to be held at Oaks Amusement Park. A September meeting is scheduled for anyone who wants to be on the planning committee.
Alumni Newspaper: Dave Voll reported that the journalism students at the high school will continue to set up the Alumni Newspaper. The fall issue will be eight pages. It may also include a separate sheet for scholarship donations, membership, etc.
Gym Lobby: Dave Voll reported that discussion and planning for the Hall of Fame trophy case is ongoing.
.
6. Old Business:
Letterhead for the Association: Dave Voll would like us to bring some ideas to the September meeting.
Defibrillator for the High School: Dave Voll reported that this needs further discussion.
Dave Voll reminded the Committee that the offer for matching funds from the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Foundation pertains to donations ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. For individuals interested in making contributions under $1,000, he encouraged people to send a check payable to CCHSAA with the stipulation that it goes toward the field project. The money will be accumulated until $1,000 or more has been collected and will then be submitted for the matching funds. A motion was made that CCHSAA will send a check for $5,000 to the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Foundation for matching funds. It was seconded and passed.
Passing the Gavel: This is officially Dave Voll’s last meeting as president of the Association. Odis Avritt will be taking over as president as of July 1, 2006. The Association would like to thank Dave Voll for the energy that he has expended for the good of the students, alumni and the CCHSAA Board of Directors. He has provided strong leadership directed toward implementing to the CCHSAA Mission Statement. He will continue on the Board as a member.
Executive Committee Meeting will be Monday, September 11, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. at Cleveland High School Alumni Room.
Board of Directors’ Meeting will be Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 7 p.m. at Cleveland High School Library.
