EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

Minutes for
November 15, 2007

Cleveland High School Alumni Room

 

The meeting was called to order by the President Odis Avritt at 11:30 AM.

 

Present: Ted Amato, Odis Avritt, Gary Bishop, Neshia Cameron, Paul Cook, Kari Freeman, Nadine Livingston, Bill Love, Roy Love, Dennis Maloney, Jean Miller, Tom Strader, Dave Voll.

 

  1. Minutes from the October 8, 2007 meeting were approved as written.

 

  1. Treasurer’s Report:  We have 665 annual members and 312 lifetime members for a total membership of 977.  Current assets for the Association are $21,650.66.  The Scholarship Fund balance is $7,513.16.  The Scholarship Fund balance is larger than usual because of the lack of “carrying over” funds during the past two months.  Cleveland Community Field Project has a balance of $125.36.  Actual assets are $14,012.14.  The Oregon Community Foundation balance as of September 30, 2007 is $183,147.44. 

 

Budget/Finance—No report

 

  1. Principal’s Report:  Paul Cook reported that the fall athletic teams have done very well.  If you are seeking additional information, it can be obtained from the high school website.  With the completion of the new turf football field, many events are now taking place on the field.  There are scheduled activities both during the school week as well as on weekends.  It was reported that with the money given by the Association to the school last month, the school was able to purchase 32 new computers for the Computer Lab.

 

The holiday band concert is scheduled for December 18, 2007 at 7 p.m.  The holiday choir concert will be on   December 20, 2007 at 7 p.m.

 

PTA—Kari Freeman reported that the PTA donated money to the Language Arts Department, Journalism Department, Performing Arts Department and the Model U.N. program.  The PTA Auction is in the planning stages. 

 

A discussion was held on the possibility of students being involved in website development for CCHSAA.  Ms. Freeman is exploring this option.

 

Boosters—Bill Love reported that the Hall of Fame plaques are the responsibility of the Booster Club as per their charter.  The Alumni Association will still be involved in partially funding the Recognition Breakfast for athletes who have excelled academically.

 

Foundation—No Report.

 

  1. Standing Committees and Liaison Reports:

 

Scholarship—Jean Miller showed the Board note cards that are now being sold.  The cards have an ink sketch of the front of Grover Cleveland High School.  The cards were designed by Eugene Yakolev who is a 2000 graduate from the high school.  This is a scholarship fund raiser.

 

Membership—Dave Voll reported that he has an updated alumni book with a CD.  There are 500 current CCHSAA members who have not renewed for 2008.  There will be a mailing the first part of January 2008 to remind them.  There will be a postcard mailing in March for a follow-up.  The Alumni Association is in the discussion stage of updating our website.

 

Communications—No report

 

Golf Tournament—Ted Amato reported that the contracts for the 2008 tournament are being discussed.

 

Board Development—Dave Voll provided the names of two new Board of Directors members.  They are Virginia Carlson Van Lom ‘48 and Rose Lauener Chapman ’49.

 

5.       Topics of Discussion and Updates:

 

Alumni Newspaper:  Dennis Maloney reported that the fall edition of the newsletter is in the mail.

 

Spring Luncheon:  Jean Miller reported that they are looking for a speaker for the luncheon. 

 

2008 Alumni Picnic:  Neshia Cameron reported that the committee is in discussion with Oaks Park regarding the logistics for the picnic.

 

6.       Old Business:

 

Distinguished Alumni Award:  Odis Avritt indicated that there will be a proposal for this award at the December Executive Committee meeting.

Executive Committee Meeting will be Monday, December 10, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. in Alumni Room.

 

Board of Directors’ Meeting will be Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 7 p.m. at Cleveland High School Library.
