  1. Committee Reports:

Budget/Finance—None

Membership—Dave Voll reported that renewals are slowly coming in.  We are also getting reunion updates for mailing lists.  We will continue with the January 1 renewal date.  The possibility of actually billing individuals for renewal was brought up.   An ongoing discussion will be held.

Dave reported that the 2004 non-renewals will be dropped.  2005 non-renewals will be carried on the roster through 2006.  Dennis Maloney and Dave Voll will be working on the database.  The spring newsletter will emphasize the importance of renewals.  A letter will be sent to Golf Tournament and 90th Celebration participates who currently are not members.  Contents of the letter are being finalized.

Communications—Bryce Rickson stated that information updates will be placed on the website as they are given to him.

Golf— Ted Amato reported that the golf auction will be held on August 16, 2006 at Oaks Park.  The tournament will be held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course at 2 p.m. on August 17, 2006.

PTA—Kari Freeman reported that the format currently being used to alternate meeting times on a monthly basis between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. is not drawing many participants.  She reported that the January PTA meeting will be held on January 19 at 6:30 PM.  Following that meeting, there will be a “Start Asking” presentation which helps provide tools to parents concerning drug awareness.  There will be panel of speakers for a “Question and Answer” session.

Boosters—Dave Voll reported that the snack bar that the Association helped fund is doing very well.  The Association has also given $100.00 to assist Booster Club to help defray the $1000.00 cost of the Scholar Athlete Breakfast.

Cleveland High School Foundation—Their annual wine tasting function is coming up on January 28, 2006.  The school Jazz Band will be performing.

Scholarship—Jean Miller and Mel Krause reported that they had met with Phil Stanford of “The Tribune” to discuss the possibility of an article about the joining together of the original Scholarship Committee and the alumni association under the umbrella of CCHSAA.  It was felt that this might assist other PIL schools in starting an alumni organization.  It doesn’t appear that such as article will be published at this time.

During the last week of April and the first week of May, packets given to senior students will have an application available to join the Association.

Board Development—Roy Love reported we are always looking for new, productive Board members.  Melinda King ’64 was interviewed prior to this meeting for a position on the Board.  A motion was made and seconded to elect Melinda King to the Board of Directors.  The motion passed.

The Nominating Committee will be preparing a slate of nominees for the Board of Directors.  They will also be preparing a slate of officers for the coming year.  A notification will be sent to all Board members listing these nominees.  It will be sent 30 days prior to the Board of Directors meeting on May 17, 2006.  The election will be held at that meeting.

5.       Topics of Discussion and Updates:

Spring Luncheon:  Jean Miller reported that the Spring Luncheon is on May 25, 2006.  The raffle proceeds will go toward funding scholarships.  All alumni are welcomed to attend this function.

Field Renovation Project:  Odis Avritt reported that the momentum is shifting to more positive contacts with foundations and individuals.  A large donation was made by a prominent CHS alumnus.  The Autzen Foundation contributed $25,000 toward the project.  The Association’s first mailing was successful to a variety of classes.  Cleveland High School alumni athletes will be targeted specifically with an informational mailing.

Roy Love stated that next week there will be a press release regarding the ground breaking for the renovation of the track and football field which will begin in May.  He encouraged folks to make their donations as soon as possible in order to get the project off and running.  At the current time, there is over $500,000 committed to the project.

90th Year Celebration:  Ted Amato indicated that 250 alumni attended the Friday football game.  Approximately 600 attend the Open House and 350 attended the Saturday night Celebration.  There were a lot of people involved in the planning and preparation to make it such a success.  Many new members joined in conjunction with the Celebration.

Alumni Calendar:  Jean Miller reported that she has 40 calendars left.  The cost is $5 each.  She will bring the remaining calendars to the Hall of Fame Induction on February 17 and to the Spring Luncheon.

90th Celebration DVD:  Dennis Maloney reported that there 65 DVDs left.  The cost is $10 each.  He will also bring them to the Spring Luncheon.

Spring Edition of the “Alumni News”:  Dave Voll reported that the deadline for articles to be sent to Jan Watt is March 6, 2006.  There will be an insert which promotes four separate options for alumni participation—membership, luncheon, golf tournament and scholarship.

Annual All-School Picnic:  Nadine Livingston reported that this picnic will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007 at the Oaks Amusement Park.  It was thought that if we publicize this date now, classes planning reunions for the summer of 2007 might want to integrate the All-School Picnic into their plans.

Cleveland-Franklin Golf Challenge:  Dennis Maloney reported that plans are in process for the Cleveland-Franklin Challenge Cup.  Since Franklin is the home team for the football game on September 29, 2006, they will be planning the format for this year’s challenge.  It will be held at Colwood Golf Course on September 28, 2006 at 8 a.m.  It will consist of 48 players on each team and a “Ryder Cup” format is being discussed.  Foursomes will consist of two players from each school.  The cost will be $50 which will include green fees and a luncheon following golf.  Earlier in the week, there will be a breakfast honoring the senior football players from each school.

CCHSAA Recognition Awards:  Roy Love reported that there is currently a President’s Award given annually.  It is given to an Association member who has demonstrated outstanding service to the Association.  This award determined by the current president.

We are developing criteria for Alumni Recognition awards.  This criteria will be presented to the full Board of Directors for their approval.  These awards will be presented in the future at the Spring Luncheon.
